The European Christian Political Youth (ECPYouth) and the Young Evangelical Peoples Party (*jevp, Switzerland) are glad to announce that the registration for the Summer School 2016 is now open. This Summer School will take place in the Swiss Alps (Canton of Bern), Switzerland from Thursday 7th July till Tuesday 12th July 2016.
The theme of the Summer School 2016 is migration and linked to that the big refugees and migrants crisis in Europe. It is known that in recent times we had such a huge flow of migration of refugees and migrants as it hasn’t been the case since World War II. This crisis has hit Europe in many different countries and has called forth various reactions from governments as well as from inhabitants of affected countries. Some countries try to welcome the migrants, others close their borders. Europe is a recipient of migrant flows but the key issue is a brutal war in the Middle East.
Different interests of governments, anxieties and religious issues to name a few are leading factors that complicate finding global solutions. As Christians related to politics we have different points of view that we need to consider. How can we deal with this topic that shows its face in the suffering of individuals, families, is writing tragic stories and at the same time undermining the stability of our own countries?
We will ask ourselves about the role of politics, NGOs as well as of the church in this important topic. Come with us and listen to inputs, discuss with people from different nations and cultural backgrounds and get updated in this fairly sensitive topic. Discussing as well as visiting new places and cultures opens up the horizon to rethink one’s point of view. Besides thinking about the refugees and migrants crisis we will go on a hike in the Swiss mountains to both enjoy nature and community. There will be times of connecting together as networking is one of the most important goods in politics. You will also get insight into Swiss politics through a visit of the Swiss Parliament building and benefit from the capital through a sightseeing tour. After having talked some time about the subject, it is important to get things on paper. This is why we will also ask ourselves at the end of the ECPYouth Summer School 2016 what steps we can undertake in our own countries.
Who can participate?
We welcome youth (16-30 years old) from both EU and non-EU countries interested in issues related to political engagement and public affairs as well as those that are interested in learning more practical skills about political activism. Switzerland – the Canton of Bern
The Canton of Bern is a beautiful place with an interesting mix of rural and urban spots. On the one hand there is the political centre and capital of Switzerland (Bern) which is hosting the Swiss Parliament, a University and is Switzerland’s 5th big city with a population of about 140’000 people (quite big for the country). On the other hand nearby there are a pretty landscape, lovely rivers, villages and the impressive Swiss Alps waiting to be discovered. We will be hosted in a central hostel in Bern.
