From Friday July 7th until Tuesday July 12th, ECPYouth has organised its annual Summer School. The Summer School was titled ‘The Refugee and Migrant Crisis in Europe’ and took place in Bern, Switzerland. With more than fifty participants from thirteen European countries, the event turned out to be a great success. The Summer School was co-organised by *jevp, the Swiss member organisation of ECPYouth.
The conference took off on Friday 8th July with a lecture of Dr. John Eibner the Syrian civil war. After that, Marc Jost lectured on the involvement of NGOs and churches in helping refugees in Switzerland. On Saturday 9th July, Gor Khatchikyan and Samuel Kullmann respectively spoke about the role of the church and politics in solving the migrant and refugee crises. On Monday July 11th, the participants of the Summer School visited the Swiss Parliament. After that, some workshops and a debate took place. The conference closed with a dinner at the Rosengarten Restaurant.
On Saturday July 9th, ECPYouth held its General Assembly (GA). Representatives of all member organisations were present, as well as representatives of ECPM, CFPE and FICDD (ChristianUnion), members of the Strategy Commission and some guests. Several important topics have been discussed, such as a strategy plan for the period 2016-2020 and the renewal of the statutes and the standing orders. Three new board members were elected: Erik-Jan Hakvoort (the Netherlands), Gabriela Urbanova (Slovakia) and Lizzie Francis (United Kingdom). At the GA, two members left the board. Denys Dhiver (France) has been involved in ECPYouth for eight years. He was elected board member in 2012, and served in the last two years as president of ECPYouth. Gerrianne Pennings (the Netherlands) has been board member for communications since 2014. The board is very thankful for what Denys and Gerrianne have contributed to ECPYouth.
