Dear friends of ECPYouth,
Three years ago in Cambridge I was elected as Board Member of ECPYouth. Last year at the International Summer School in Odessa, I was re-elected for a second term of two years. In my letter to the selection commission I then expressed the intention to complete that second term. However, I also indicated that if it would become impossible to combine my study or professional work with my activities for ECPYouth, I wouldn’t hesitate to step down to ensure that another could take my place and the organisation could move on.
Unfortunately, a few months ago I had to take this decision. In May I was sworn in as a committee member for the Reformed Political Party in the municipal council of my home town. Besides that I got a fulltime job as a policy advisor in another municipality. For me this all is a great opportunity, but I knew it would cost me too much time, focus and commitment to combine it with ECPYouth Board membership. Therefore I have decided to give up my position as Board Member for Communications of ECPYouth.
When I made the decision in May, the selection procedure for the other vacancies had already opened. The Board at that time therefore thought it to be best if I would stay until Autumn 2018 and that only after me leaving the Board they would start looking for a new Board Member. However, as after the ISS 2018 in Wroclaw it turned out that also the positions of President and Secretary were not filled, the Board decided to combine this with the search for my successor. So, all in all, we have ended up with a mid-term selection procedure for three new Board Members. It deserves no bouquets, but I believe we have chosen for the best possible option to solve this unexpected situation.
For the remaining months of my Board membership I will be as dedicated to ECPYouth as I have been. ECPYouth came into my life quite unexpectedly, but I must say that in the past years I have really started to love the network and you all. That’s why I am very sad about leaving. But I will promise I will certainly stay in touch. One who becomes part of the ECPYouth family will ever stay part of it.
I will be at the GA in January/February 2019 to greet you all. For now I wish you all the best. I thank you for all your support during the past years. It has been a great honour for me. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me personally.
Be blessed in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Ardjan Boersma, Board Member for Communications
