Resolution on Abortion

Dear members of ECPYouth,

Considering:

  • The current rate of children being killed before they are even born - 17% of pregnancies in Europe end in abortion, while in some European states like Austria 29% of pregnancies end in abortion

  • The removal of the constitutional right to live in Irelandin order to make way for legal abortion

  • The importance of the fundamental right to dignity of all human beings recognised in art.1 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights

  • The importance of the fundamental right to life of all recognized by art.2 of the EU Charter

  • The physical and psychological post-abortive consequences experienced by women are akin to the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, such as a 150% increase in suicide, 81% increase in mental health problems and 50% increase in future pre-term deliveries, just to name a few

  • The increased danger of female infertility increases 0.94 times with the increase in abortions, making abortion the second highest cause of female infertility

we firmly call upon:

  • All MEPs of the ECPM and members of ECPYouth to support national and local pro-life policies which aim to safeguard the life of the unborn, as well as support pro-family policies that aim to help mothers and families of low socio-economic status

  • All members of ECPM andECPYouth to work to implement educational programs on the realities of abortion and post-abortive syndrome, as well as on the relational and psychological significance of sex
